(The Bible refers to finding shelter under the wings of God. I’ve always found this mental image fascinating and beautiful. I am also drawn to the Biblical theme of God giving his all to rescue those who just can’t help themselves. When I heard that Mr. Ilievski once said “I’m the one with wings”, I knew there had to be a song or poem in there somewhere.)

Standing there in my darkest place
Knowing it was me that I had to face
Seeing myself as a child of disgrace
Emptiness ruled inside.

The weight of all my sin
Self-loathing setting in
Saw no hope to win
Just wanted to run and hide.

God was reaching out
But I didn’t hear him shout
“I will fly to you
For I’m the one with wings”

All alone in the depth of night
Wondering if I’d ever see light
Knowing that my life wasn’t right
I longed to be free.

Crushed by the weight of shame
Guilt striking me with blame
Regret became my name
Then I began to see…

That God was calling out
“I love you, have no doubt
And I will fly to you
For I’m the one with wings”

Are you heavy-burdened?
Do you tremble with fear?
Do you ache for hope?
God is drawing near!

He will shelter you this day
He will shine his light your way
He will fly to you
For he’s the one with wings!
